We are annually changing the lives of 10,000 students in local middle schools and high schools by helping them have the skills to reach their goals while avoiding teen pregnancy, unhealthy relationships, bullying, drugs, alcohol, suicide and violence. Our programs are not only in North Florida and South Georgia, but have been replicated in 13 cities throughout Russia, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and in Uganda. Our long term goal is to establish Project SOS offices in five additional cities in Florida and eventually five more throughout the nation so we can shape the lives of one million youth and parents annually.
Not only does Project SOS help our youth, but we also know that strong families are the key to healthy communities. We are building healthy relationships with individuals and couples by teaching them communication skills, parenting skills, debt management and conflict resolution techniques during our ‘Why Knot Workshops’. In addition, enrolled clients are offered job readiness skills, pre-marital counseling, mentoring and life coaching. Ten weeks of interactive classes are available at cites in Duval County where help with relationships is offered along with child care and dinner. Each session is interactive, fun and facilitated by couples who understand the challenges of today’s society as well as the pressures families face. The classes are also available on our website to help people everywhere have healthier relationships. All classes are free. Funding for this project was provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families Grant: 9OFMOO33.
